This is one of those designs that I'd seen but never given a second glance. The version photographed in the Knitter's Shawls and Scarves book is white mohair and styled in ugly '80s fashion. Then I saw it knitted up by my friend Rosemary in beautiful variegated laceweight linen--so I had to knit a variegated version too. The stole is knitted diagonally, and I think that works well with the color variation in the yarn. It's an easily memorized, rhythmic lace pattern that's not too boring to knit, and I love the result. The yarn is not plied, so it's super soft, light and warm. The colors are lovely--olive green and old rose.
