| This was easy & educational knitting. The shawl is knitted sideways (kind of) in a lacy rib stitch, with short-row shaping to form a semicircle made up of 5 long skinny triangular sections. The result is a very graceful, wearable shape. The basic design could be used to knit a semicircle in any stitch pattern. In the book, this shawl is shown with a lovely edging knit in Koigu merino. I just happened to have one skein in a coordinating color lying around...so mine has it too. I like The bold effect very much. My edging doesn't go all the way around, which meant I had to find a graceful way to handle the ends. Someday I'll figure out how to short-row at the ends so they have a "generous" look. For this edging, what I did instead was crochet some tiny chain loops across the edges (see detail photo). |
